Members Corner Edition #4
Just before the Super Congress in August the club held its annual Anniversary Birthday Teams, this a free day for the members. This year the clubhouse was 11 eleven years old. Ben and Magda organised the afternoon and did a wonderful job; there were the usual treats and goodies and fun was had by all.Photos
After the euphoria of the Super Congress (end of August )it was hard to come down to earth and pick up life at the Bridge Club. The congress is now the 3rd biggest Congress in Australia and has been awarded gold points. In the 4 years numbers have doubled and next year looks like being bigger still. The main prizes went to visitors but there were some local victories: David Shorter & Joyce White, Nigel McIvor & Jamie McFall, Elaine Rae & Shirley Rogers and Barbara Herring & Phil Booth took prizes in the Swiss Pairs Section. In the Swiss Teams, successes went to Elaine Rae, Jenny Strickland , Shirley Rogers ,Liz Quinn and Colin Tolley & Merle Dyer, Barbara Herring,Elaine Hulbert, Berneice Kearney & Pat Haigh. Congratulations to all these players .Photos of these can be found on the congress page
The week after the congress 3 teams went to Port McQuarie for the annual teams event. The Houlton team, consisting of Phil & Bambi Houlton, and Liza Marlin & Tony Heffernan came 4th . This was an outstanding achievement and congratulations to the four of youl.

22nd September the members got a surprise when they arrived at the club for a normal Saturday afternoons play. It was Phil Houlton & Joan Reardons birthday and they supplied afternoon tea. There was a break mid afternoon and the members enjoyed a feast of mud and cheese cake. A huge thunder storm appeared from nowhere and some members became anxious about their pets and washing!! Afternoon tea may not have solved all the problems but it certainly made a nice distraction . Some Photos
During July the club held the Grand National Open Teams event. This is an event which is held state wide. Each club organises the sessions in their own time. There were 9 teams competing in the Coffs Club. The overall winner being eligible to go to Port McQuarie for the regional playoff. This was held over the weekend of the 6/7 of October. The Power team represented the Coffs Bridge Club. What a weekend that turned out to be!!! Libby Power, Pam Jones, Nigel McIvor and Judy Carpenter not only won the event they won 10 out of the 12 games played. They now go to the State final in Tweeds Head in early December

Thanks to Ben Raaphorst (with courtesy of Richard Pavolicek) there will be a 'Bridge Puzzle section' in each members column. However, this one was provided by of Glen Savins ( original source unknown) who brought it into the club one Wednesday afternoon. He had us scratching our heads and no one at the time managed to solve it. See how you go

On the night of Tuesday 23rd the club held a Wine and Pizza Night which was handicapped. These nights are always fun and the numbers swelled from the normal 5 or 6 to 14 tables. A big thank you must go to Robyn and her helpers. Just to make it more interesting Cliff handicapped the session. The "Handicapped Winners" were Lynne Coupe & Judy Paul and Leonie & Rudi Brocker . Congratulations to the 4 of you . Some photos
October is nearly over and the club is busy. Next Month the Presidents Plate starts, this is over 3 weeks (3 Monday afternoons) and the room is divided into 3 "flights" depending on masterpoints. The winners of these flights and the overall winner will be announced at the Presidents Cocktail party on Mon 21 November. Then there's the AGM in December and of course the Christmas party . The next members corner is January . I know this is early.... from the committee, enjoy your Christmas and if traveling, drive carefully and of course...
