Members Corner Edition #6

Bridge is regarded as a 'sport of the mind' and like all sports there are points awarded to the players as their game progresses. These Master Points can be gained through play at the club and at congresses's. Most bridge players see climbing a level in the ranks as an achievement. The points are awarded every 3 months. In January 11 members got promoted to another level.

The club welcomes back to Australia, Dave & Brenda Carter. Dave & Brenda have house swapped their home in England for 3 months with Janet Merriman & her husband.David & Pat Amies also back in Coffs; they are involved with work at the University for 6 months. Its good to see you back at the club and we hope both your stays are happy ones.
The club was saddened with the news that Nola Pierce had died late February. Although Nola hadn't played at the club for many years she was a very active member in the early days. A Vale for Nola was held before play on Thursday 28 February, at the Nambucca Valley Bridge Club.
Our condolences go to Liz Martin whose husband Andrew died recently. We have been thinking of you Liz.
The Gold Coast Congress: This is a popular congress amongst the CHBC bridge players. It was not only Nigel and David that traveled to the Gold Coast but also 12 other members from the club. For some it was their first time. Ben Raaphorst & Magda Kiraly came 8th in the Senior Teams event. David Johnson & John Watson's came first in their section of the Open Pairs. The congress is a tough one with many professionals attending, so play itself is can be difficult and daunting.
Lismore Congress: Cliff Mitchell, Brian Doust, Ivan Bride & Ivan Redwood teamed up and represented the CHBC at the Lismore Swiss Teams congress. They came runner in the Plate. Congratulations to the 4 of you.

A bedtime Story: A bumbling bridge player explained to his friend how he planned to improve his game, "every night when I go to bed I think about the mistakes I made that day". "Gee", his friend said, " I am surprised you get any sleep"!!!!

So what's on the horizon for the Bridge Club? On Tuesday 1st of April there is another Wine & Pizza night. These nights are always popular and this one promises free pizzas. It will be a fun night. The first 3 Fridays in May is taken up with the Open Championship. On the weekend of the 17-18 May there is our annual Teams Congress. This is always attracts entries from many clubs. If you intend competing, then it's best you get your team organised and fill out an entry form. The club can only cater for around 25 tables so the sooner you apply the better. Forms will available through the club and online. In June the GNOT takes place; again the club will announcing the times and dates for this. This is also a teams event. The is club is putting in a lot of work behind the scenes for the Super Congress. The brochure has been produced and being circulated to other clubs. So, as you can see its go..go...go at the CHBC.
If anyone wants any of the photos in this edition, email me with the section they appeared in and the jpg name and I will send them to you. That's it until July, keep safe.
The Final Word...
If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person there is harmony in the house.
If there is harmony in the house there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation there will be peace in the world
